Wendy Ewart
Dr Wendy Ewart, is a British scientist who is Deputy Chief Executive and Chief of Strategy of the Medical Research Council (UK). Dr Ewart is responsible for the development and communication of the MRC’s research strategy and its impact. She also directs international policy, including global health, and leads the overall approach to planning and evaluation across the MRC. She is a Director of both UK Biobank and the Francis Crick Institute.〔(UK Biobank ), (Francis Crick Institute ), accessed 11th October 2013 〕 She was appointed as Director of Strategy for the Medical Research Council in 2008. She was responsible for the development of the MRC’s Strategic Plan ‘Research Changes Lives’ which was introduced in June 2009. Ewart obtained her BSc in Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of Southampton and a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Bristol. Before joining the MRC she worked at the Wellcome Trust (1991-2003) managing funding programmes, including those for the developing world. From 2003 to 2008 she was Head of Research Strategy at the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College.〔(UK Biobank )〕
