Dr Ewart is responsible for the development and communication of the MRC’s research strategy and its impact. She also directs international policy, including global health, and leads the overall approach to planning and evaluation across the MRC. She was responsible for the development of the MRC’s Strategic Plan ‘Research Changes Lives’ which was introduced in June 2009. She was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive and Chief of Strategy in January 2012.〔(Medical Research Council )〕 == Previous career == Ewart obtained her BSc in Physiology and Biochemistry at the University of Southampton and a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Bristol. Before joining the MRC she worked at the Wellcome Trust (1991-2003) managing funding programmes, including those for the developing world.
